The famous UT tower, unfortunately you are faced with locked doors on all of the upper floors when the elevator door opens.

The new Psychology building.

I heard about Michael Telch’s phobia lab, where they have snakes, spiders, and coffins. A nice graduate student gave me a tour and told me that one of the snakes got loose once and they had to evacuate the building. Click here for a surprise.

The spiral in the courtyard.

The Experimental Science building, and the entrance we servants of science might use.

The infamous 21st Street co-op.

The pterodactyl that guards Suite 1A.

ICC Austin’s French House, across the street from College Houses’ 21st St. Co-op. I hope that the tasteful porch decorations deter any inter-cooperative salvos.

The Texas Showdown Saloon and College Houses’ Taos Co-op, complete with a Credit Union ATM.

The ICC Austin’s Helios House.

College Houses’ Pearl St. Co-op, right near 21st Steet.

Pearl St. Co-op’s famous salt water pool, where I had a refreshing swim.

One of the beautiful murals on Guadalupe St.
I had no idea that Austin was named after the Six Million Dollar Man.

Detail from the mural, showing the local colorful characters.

The mural on the facing wall depicts the state of Texas.

The COS is conveniently located on the main drag of the student neighborhood..

The HBES conference was scheduled for the same time as Bike Week, the whole downtown was packed with bikers and their associates at night. 6th street resembled Bike Week in Daytona, with the bands playing very loud jams with no particular melody.

How the bikers really get around.

Downtown as seen from the conference hotel. At sunset hundreds of thousands of bats leave their perch under the bridge in search of food.

The house where O. Henry lived.

Austin as seen from above. The University is to the left, the Capitol in the middle, and downtown to the right.
