Meets Expectations-

  • The explanation presented was thorough and accurate.
  • The explanation was appropriate for the developmental level of the students and its placement in the instructional sequence.
  • The explanation of the content idea included the appropriate and accurate vocabulary.
  • The content included a thorough and correct scientific explanation.
  • Any diagram, picture, or model used was scientifically accurate.
  • The correct materials or equipment supported the content idea.

Working Towards Expectations-

  • The explanation was clearly represented but there were some factual errors.
  • The explanation may have been above or below the developmental level of the students or its placement in the instructional sequence was only partially supported or not in the best location.
  • The explanation of the content made reference to correct ideas, but was missing key vocabulary words.
  • The correct scientific explanation was referenced, but the explanation was not complete or it was used incorrectly.
  • A diagram, picture, or model was used, but there were scientifically inaccurate references or the diagram, picture or model was incomplete.
  • The materials or equipment used did not clearly support the content idea.

Does not meet expectations -

  • The explanation included numerous factual errors.
  • The explanation indicates that some consideration for the students was intended, but it is not appropriate for the developmental level of the students.

OR

  • The explanation may have been placed at an unsupported or inappropriate location in the instructional sequence.
  • The explanation included vocabulary that did not support the content idea.
  • The scientific explanation used was incorrect or the wrong scientific explanation was used.
  • The diagram, picture, or model was inappropriate or did not support the scientific explanation.
  • The materials or equipment used were not related to the content idea.

Not adequate -

  • The explanation was incorrect.
  • The explanation was not appropriate for students or the instructional sequence.
  • The explanation did not include the required vocabulary or the wrong vocabulary was used.
  • The scientific explanation was not correct.
  • The diagram, picture, or model used was not correct.
  • The correct materials or equipment were not used.
