NO AIDS TESTS CONDUCTED ON PRISONERS

YEREVAN, February 23 (Noyan Tapan). Armenian specialists are reluctant to share information on the new AIDS cure. Lev Zohrabian, director of the Republican AIDS Prevention Center, explained it by the fact that the researches contain both commercial and state secret. The only thing that transpired is that the drug does not have to be necessarily used on a permanent basis to get rid of the disease. The drug brings deliverance within a short period of time. The studies of the effect of the drug are continuing at a Yerevan clinic under the observation of the best specialists in the field. None of the thirteen people suffering from AIDS indicated HIV infection after taking the new medicine. Stating that all those who participated in the experiment had done so voluntarily, Zohrabian called it a mere coincidence that their number (13) was the same as the number of HIV-infected in prisons. "The participation of prisoners in the experiment was excluded from the very beginning," he said. *01/-2e c17 $e17 23/02/99
