Welcome to the Nabeshima Lab

Our laboratory studies the chromosome dynamics during meiosis which is the specialized cell division that produces haploid genome of gametes from diploid genome of germ cells. Successful meiosis is a basis to avoid aneuploidy that leads to birth defects, miscarriages and mental retardation in humans. Our current focus is the initial process of homologous chromosome interaction. How do chromosomes recognize their homology, and stabilize their association? To address this long-standing fundamental question, we are using a modern model organism, C. elegans.
