The following books are recommended to be a standard textbook. It is, however, noted that you may not need to buy these books, if you have already similar books for engineering analysis or applied mathematics. Most of course material can be found at this home page for this course.Especially, we shall provide notes for Calculus of Variations, Variational Method, and Galerkin's Method.

The following book can be good references to this course. The first four books are especially recommended.

Software for This Course

We shall extensively use both MATLAB ( containing MAPLE inside ) and MATHEMATICA in this course to solve examples to demonstrate the theories discussed in this course, and to solve problems in the homework and take home examinations. Furthermore, some students may be interested in public domain C and/or Fortran programs available in NETLIB.
