Analytical Methods in Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering

Course Information

This is an applied mathemtics course specialized to mechanics and mechanical engineering to teach analysis methods to engineering first year graduate students. In this course, we shall cover applied and computational linear algebra, vector analysis with curves and surfaces, interpolation and approximation of functions, numerical integration, Fourier analysis with signal processing and images, variational method with its approximation such as Ritz-Galerkin, weighted residual, moving least squares methods, and boundary and initial valued problems, together with various examples from mechanics and mechanical engineering problems such as design and control. Furthermore, this course is also designed to learn how to use MATLAB and MATHEMATICA in engineering nalysis.
