My first train ticket
I found this among my things. My father had the foresight to keep this humble little token of my youth and he had written on the back, "Kurt’s erste Fahrkarte; V/27/39" or Kurt’s first train ticket, May 27, 1939. That was 62 years ago. It was from Wilhelmshorst to Rehbrücke, a distance of a few kilometers. By the way, this line Wansee to Beelitz) was, and probably still is, an S-Bahn line. Price was 0.10 RM, a few cents at best. The second class ticket (No. 0195) is printed on substantial card stock and measures 1 1/8 x 2 1/4 in. (30 x 56 mm). No doubt, that short trip will have been in a classic Prussian compartment coach with varnished wooden benches. Maybe it was this single event that started my life long interest in trains. Who knows?
