My Favorite Märklin Models
The Crocodile
Since 1933, Märklin has always offered a model of the SBB Crocodile in every catalog. In 1933, it was the CCS66. After World War II, it was the CCS800 and its many 00/H0 descendents culminating in 2000 with the Millenium edition crafted from platinum. There have been various 1-Gauge Crocodiles as well as tiny Z-gauge models. For the company, the SBB Crocodile was, and probably will always be, the flagship of the fleet. With my limited resources, I have been able to compile a pretty decent history of these models. I hope you will enjoy reading about them. My personal affiliation with the Märklin Crocodile is one-half of the 3300 Set issued in 1985. This Crocodile is metal.
The BR50 and BR52
Märklin introduced the BR50 in 1974. Starting in the mid-1980s many variations on the theme were offered. See table. The catalog number was 3084 and its prototype was number 050 082-7 and it featured the Kabinentender. I bought my 3084 in Düsseldorf in 1985. In 2000, a Märkliner in Washington, DC converted it to DELTA, making it, in effect, a 3484.
