2001–Present ITCS, University of Michigan Ann Arbor, MI Campus Computing Sites Technical Support Group Team Leader n Provide leadership and guidance to the Windows, Macintosh and Printing teams, a group responsible for maintaining environment services and printing support to over 1800 computers in over 70 computing labs and classrooms. n Assist Sites technical staff with the integration of the Sites’ lab environment into other ITCS’ services. This includes the AFS, LDAP, Active Directory, and Kerberos services. n Assist with all technical aspects of Sites’ infrastructure and futures planning. n Develop and provide trainings to Sites’ staff and other University members on the Sites/UMCE infrastructure, the ITCS Printing system and other various Sites technical environments. n Collaborated with other University departments in the design, development and implementation of a charged for printing solution based off of the open source CUPS project. n Aid in the administration and ongoing maintenance of the charged for printing project. n Assist customers of the ITCS Printing Service and new print customers to identify needs and help determine Sites contribution to our partnerships. Also provide client installers and setup training on the print system. n Work with Sites management to explore and implement new partnership sites. n Act as a backup network administrator and assist the Sites' network administrator with the evaluation of networking components and solutions. n Maintain relationships with Sites’ partners and other University communities and provide technical assistance to these groups as needed. n Participate on a 24/7 on-call rotation, covering all technical components of Sites.
2001–Present ITCS, University of Michigan Ann Arbor, MI Campus Computing Sites Senior Software Engineer n Supervise and provide technical mentorship and expertise to Sites’ development staff. n Work with minimal supervision to develop, integrate, update and maintain a variety of multi-platform tools and services to assist in the support and administration of the Sites’ computing environment, including: n Staff time reporting and tracking system used by multiple University departments, n Student staff route management software, n Problem reporting and tracking tool, n Print queue management and job submission service available to all members of the University community, n Course related software submission and classroom reservation system used by Sites’ staff and University faculty and lecturers. n Focus development on LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySql, PHP) and Ajax (Asynchronous server communication using JavaScript, CSS, DOM & XMLHttpRequest methods) based applications for portability and design flexibility. n Assist with the development of various client side tools used to help administer the Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Printing environments. n Administer and maintain multiple servers used by Sites’ staff for storage, development, and web hosting purposes. n Document and maintain the code base for all applications.
1998–2001 ITD, University of Michigan Ann Arbor, MI Campus Computing Sites Windows Systems Administrator & Team Leader n Configured and maintained a Windows NT environment for over 900 machines in over 37 locations. n Managed other members of the environment development team. n Hired and trained staff to assist with development, support, and quality control. n Assisted in managing the University's ksamba, netatalk and lprng based printing infrastructure. This included maintaining client components and the server configurations. n Designed, authored, implemented, and maintained a custom SNMP based monitoring solution used for managing and maintaining over 900 Windows NT workstations and servers. n Designed, implemented, and maintained web-based environment management and problem reporting tools, using Perl, HTML, and JavaScript. n Wrote several C/C++, Perl, and VBScript based client applications and tools to aid in Windows system administration. n Assisted with responses to outages, emergency troubleshooting, and protocol analysis needs on a switched Ethernet network consisting of over a dozen "class C" subnets used for transporting TCP/IP, UDP/IP, IPX, AppleTalk, and other protocols.
1997–1998 ITD, University of Michigan Ann Arbor, MI Campus Computing Sites Windows Support Team Member n Designed and implemented a strategy for migrating over 500 workstations at over 30 locations from Windows 3.1 to Windows NT Workstation 4.0. n Authored, implemented, and maintained a set of tools, written in C, C++, and Perl, which were used to automate environment control and administrative tasks such as server load balancing, workstation monitoring and self-maintenance, software encapsulation and distribution, and a customized unattended installation mechanism. n Configured and supported NT and UNIX servers used to provide services including DHCP, DNS, Web (IIS and Apache), FTP, SAMBA and IMAP email. n Provided front-line support on DOS/Windows 3.1, MacOS 7.x, and a wide range of software and services for University of Michigan students, faculty, and staff at the University's Campus Computing Sites.
1996–1997 ITD, University of Michigan Ann Arbor, MI Campus Computing Sites Academic Computing Consultant n Assisted faculty, staff and students with their usage of Campus Computing Sites facilities and services. n Assisted users in determining and resolving problems with site equipment and configurations. n Mentored recently hired staff in Sites’ lab maintenance and consulting procedures.
