The book is conceived as an annotated narrative and is divided into three parts.

Part I (1991) describes a journey through the country in June 1991, when Yugoslavia still
existed as a federation and a united state. It is made up of the following sections:
1. Byzantium, a journey through medieval monasteries of Serbia and Kosovo
2. Renaissance, a journey along the Adriatic Coast visiting some of its most beautiful towns
3. Baroque, describing the end of the journey in the Austro-Hungarian Zagreb.

Part II (1992,-93,-94), entitled Broken Connections, features letters from both
Serbian and Croatian friends in Belgrade and Zagreb related to the war as experienced by
group members from the opposing sides in the conflict.

Part III (1994), entitled Epitaphs, is an epilogue written upon her 1994 visit to former
Yugoslavia, to both Belgrade and Zagreb. It is made up of the impressions received upon
revisiting old friends and familiar places, and of the changes that the war has wrought
upon them.

Requiem For Yugoslavia has over 3oo pages and a large number of photos, which illustrate
the text and make it come alive.
