1 p.m. on October 18, 2003, I launched for my first Head of the Charles

These first
racing pictures are from Magazine Beach, which is about 1/2 mile into
the 3 mile race. I was fortunate to have the Michigan men and women's
varsity 8s and parents cheering loudly as I came around this curve.

Approaching
the Weeks Bridge I was in a little battle with Stephen Arthur-Wong (US
National Team). It was great to hear family, friends and former teammates
drown out the "U-S-A" chants with "Let's Go Blue"

Its a long
row back, including an opportunity to smile for a picture from dad as
I passed under the bridge

not so long that the sun went down, but this was too cool of a picture
