Introduction

Women’s sports have changed a great deal overtime. Professional leagues are on the rise for women. The Women’s National Basketball Association has had a great deal of success. Society views women’s sports as inferior to the men’s sports because men’s have been around longer and have been able to build up a reputation. “…the legacy of girls’ past exclusion results in fairly glaring present injustices-such as girls softball teams being denied access to the best public playing fields because of a seniority system that gives preference to boys’ baseball teams simply because they have been around longer,” (Young). This leads me to believe that women’s sports have not grown as fast as they could be because of the limitations that are placed on them because of men’s sports. The issue is not that women’s sports are resulting in the downfall of some men’s sports, rather that the men’s sports have always placed a handicap on women’s sport’s success thus changes need to be made to equal out the playing field. Certain women’s leagues are gaining support by viewers. Will the trend continue with other women’s sports?
