Under somewhat overcast skies, the Hoodoo Gurus hosted a Friday afternoon
barbecue in Coogee, Sydney, for about four dozen visiting members of "Poison
Pen", an online fan club of the band, during the Sydney leg of their
farewell tour. "We have all been big fans for years. And we decided
that since this was the band's last tour that we had to come out and see
it." said Julia Thiel, president of the Poison Pen, from Ann Arbor,
Michigan. Unfortunately, only Guru members Rick Grossman, Brad Shepherd
and Mark Kingsmill (no Dave Faulkner) were on hand for the huge feast. "I
think it's great to get together with our fans like this. And the food's
pretty good too." said Kingsmill. The band has been wowing fans with
their farewell shows, playing two-hour sets and taking requests from the
crowd. The Hoodoo Gurus will play their last ever show in Perth on New Year's
Eve. Then they'll take a long, well-deserved break.
