Background and Objectives of MSChevaliers.org

MSC stands for Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (Missionarii Sacratissimi Cordis) founded by Fr. Jules Chevalier at Issoudun, France, on December 8, 1854.  (On this same date, the Holy Father made the official proclamation of the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception of our Blessed Virgin Mary.)  The MSC as a religious Catholic international congregation includes 2,000 Priests and Brothers working in over 50 countries  worldwide, including many countries in Asia like the Philippines. The congregation has also several hundreds  of  Lay Associates in many countries who as partners in apostolic ministry render various types of valuable assistance to the priests and brothers. This site is one of the many inspired by the spirit of the MSC society and by the commitment of the Lay Associates.

On January 13, 2003 a small group of MSC Alumni from the Sacred Heart Seminary in Angeles City, Pampanga, decided to form themselves into an active group and under the leadership of Alex Pe and companions, a captivating name of MSChevaliers was given in order to highlight the pioneering spirit of Fr. Jules Chevalier and to promote the values of chivalry. Thus, to enhance fast communication among the alumni from the four corners of the world, Alex Pe set up this group e-mail address: mschevaliers@yahoogroups.com

And finally, with the initiative of Samson Juen, Avenido Berdin, Rene Prescillas and Joet Reoma from the Sacred Heart Seminary in Lawaan, Talisay, Cebu, and the guidance, encouragement, and direction provided by Fr. Ray Sabio, this website ( http://www.mschevaliers.org ) is constructed in order to reach out hopefully to more MSC alumni, their family members and friends. Moreover, in order to provide a forum for a much bigger inter-action among the alumni,  Samson Juen set up a new group e-mail: msc-alumni-cebu@yahoogroups.com   You are most welcome to join this group-email.  Our objectives are:

1. Revive the family and camaraderie spirit received and nurtured during the years of formation and education at the MSC seminaries in Lawaan, Talisay; Angeles City; Cebu City and Quezon City, Philippines. This spirit has been very well appreciated and there has been an enthusiastic clamor for a Get-together and Fraternal Reunion.

2. Explore the posibilities of assisting spiritually and financially the MSC congregation in the Philippines so that the congregation could train more seminarians for priestly and religious life; and at the same time, seek ways of deepening the life of faith and prayer of the alumni themselves through the Spirituality of the Heart.

3. Form a greater unified body through inter-action and enhanced inter-communication among various sub-groups (Lawaan, Angeles, Cebu City, Quezon city) to share the profound and challenging charism of the MSC congregation; and at the same time, to help transform the culture of death present now in the Philippine society into a culture of hope and renewal.

4. Help the MSC Congregation prepare for a meaningful celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the MSC Presence in the Philippines on December 8, 2008.

B. 2008 GRAND MSC Alumni Reunion.
On December 8, 2008, the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart will be celebrating the 100th Anniversary of their presence in the Philippines. On that very date, 100 years ago, eight MSC Dutch missionaries arrived as the 13th congregation, in our native land, the Pearl of the Orient. As part of a long range preparation, we are trying to track and contact as many of the 700 or so men who spent a portion of their lives with the MSC, whether that was 3 months or 1 year or 30 years. A number of former alumni have indicated that the time they spent with the MSC had a very significant influence on their lives. There are many people we have not been able to locate and any help you can give us would be appreciated. If you have any information, please contact Alex Pe or Fr. Pedro Arguillas, MSC. Their telephone numbers and e-mail addresses are indicated above.
