Busted! An Investigation Into Automotive Velocity

In this activity, students will be timing cars driving on the road in front of the school to determine if the drivers are obeying the posted speed limit. This is a whole class activity.

Grade 5 Objectives

• 3.Use and apply coordinates (order pairs) in graphing.
• 4.Design, construct and read various kinds of graphs (bar, line, circle, picto) and tables.
• 6.Read and interpret bar, line, circle, pictographs.
• 7.To perform appropriate computation with a calculator using memory and function keys.
• 15.Use a calculator to work exercises involving multiple digit multiplication and division.
• 16.Determine the mean or average of a set of given information.

Grade 6 Objectives

• 1606 Work problem solving exercises involving multiplication and division with or without a calculator.
• 1619 Demonstrate the meaning of decimals using models and practical situations.
• 1636 To read, interpret, determine, use and describe statistics in problem solving (range, frequency).
• 1641 To interpret and compare integers in familiar situations.
• 1642 Write numbers in exponential and standard form.
