Making Art Your Own

Finding great art and putting yourself in the picture

This project will take you to some of the great art museums of the world and give you a chance to use your creativity with pictures you find there. You'll do this work in two parts: First, you'll look at a variety of artwork and make a collection of things which interest you. Then, you'll use a graphics program to experiment with the art, making it reflect your own tastes.

Saving a copy of things you like

To copy a picture from the Web, take the following steps:

• Put the cursor in the middle of the picture to be copied
• Hold the mouse button down (a pop-up menu will appear)
• Slide the mouse up one choice to "Save a copy as. . ." and release the mouse
• A "Save. . ." dialog box will come up, just like in ClarisWorks or any other program you use. Find your own folder, give the picture a name, and choose "Save"

Making it yours

Your teacher will help you select a graphics program. You should:

• Open the graphics program first (DON'T try to open your artwork by double-clicking on it).
• From within the graphics program, choose "Open. . ." from the File menu.
• Find your folder and open the file you wish to work on.

Sharing with others

You can share with others by putting a copy of your artwork in a central server folder, adding it to a class HyperStudio gallery, or putting it up on the Web. Your teacher will tell you how to do this.
