Gabriel Pomerantz is in his senior year at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. He is pursuing a bachelor of music degree in bassoon performance. As a bassoonist, Gabe plays with the University Symphony Band and has also played with the University Concert Band and University Philharmonia Orchestra. Gabe currently studies bassoon with Jeffrey Lyman, and has also studied with Leonard Hindell, formerly 2nd bassoonist of the New York Philharmonic, and Cindy Lauda. He has participated in master classes with bassoonists Judith LeClair, Leonard Hindell, Frank Morelli, and Christopher Weait. Gabe is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity.
For two summers prior to coming to UM, Gabe studied bassoon with Daniel Matsukawa, Angela Anderson and Mark Gigliotti, bassoonists with the Philadelphia Orchestra, at the orchestra's summer home in Saratoga, New York, and in the summer 2007, he studied bassoon with Karla Eckholm and Kristen Wolf-Jensen at the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro North Carolina.
Gabriel attended John L. Miller Great Neck North High School in Great Neck, NY. As principal bassoonist of the Great Neck North High School Symphony Orchestra, Gabe twice played at Carnegie Hall and he was also principal bassoonist of the Long island Youth Orchestra and Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, and was a member of the NYSSMA 2005 Conference All-State Symphonic Band.
