John Gettel is a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree in bassoon performance at the University of Michigan where he studies with Dr. Jeffrey Lyman. He plays with the University Philharmonia Orchestra and in was involved in the March 2007 production of The Bartered Bride. Additionally, John has performed several times with the Michigan Pops Orchestra and the Campus Symphony Orchestra. His bassoon is a Cooper-Püchner, serial #6999.
While in high school, John played with the Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra and was chosen twice to participate in the All-State Honors Orchestra, part of the Michigan Youth Arts Festival. Past teachers have included Thomas Zantow and Patrick Zylka.
