Meet the Professor

I have been teaching here at the University of Michigan (where I earned both my MM and DMA degrees) since 2006. Prior to coming back to Ann Arbor, I taught at Arizona State University and Bowling Green State University. My Bachelor of Music degree is from Temple University, where I studied with Bernard Garfield, then principal bassoonist of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

I have held full-time positions in both bassoon and contrabassoon in several American orchestras and have had the pleasure of substituting with many of the greatest: most recently the Los Angeles Philharmonic on their tour to Caracas, Venezuela in 2012, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Metropolitan Opera, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra and the San Francisco Ballet on their tour to NYC a few years ago. Over the years I’ve performed in summers at the Mostly Mozart Festival in San Diego, the Moscow Autumn Festival, the Spoleto Festival, the Colorado Music Festival, the Colorado Philharmonic (now the National Repertory Orchestra) and many more. I am a frequent soloist at the conferences of the International Double Reed Society.

Recent highlights of my job here at Michigan include our tour of China with the UM Symphony Band in May 2011, and the launch of our YouTube Channel to spread the word about our program and to offer performances by me, my students and my colleagues.
