Slog belongs to the semantic class of verbs which involve movement through some type of liquid.

Depth is the parameter which is most salient to verbs in this class. Some part of the agent’s must necessarily be surrounded by liquid as he moves. This could mean complete submersion (as in slog), or submersion of only the feet (as in wade).
