Scuttle belongs to the semantic class of verbs which involve fast motion.

Speed is the parameter which is most salient to verbs in this class. Many of these verbs necessarily imply fast motion of the agent. In addition, there is an interesting but non-binding correlation between the speed of motion and proximity of the agent to the ground. Hence, scuttle, a motion done very close to the ground, is faster than lurch, which involves an agent who moves relatively high above the ground.
