I have a few different projects to admit Ph.D. students who are self-motivated and interested in machine learning as funded research assistants.
   

Jin Lu is an assitant professor in the Department of Computer and Information Science at the University of Michigan, Dearborn. He is a faculty member of Precision Health at the University of Michigan. He is also an affiliated faculty member of the Michigan Institute for Data Science (MIDAS). His major research interests include machine learning, data mining, optimization, matrix analysis, deep learning, public health, biomedical informatics, and health informatics. He is particularly interested in transparent machine learning models, high-performance algorithms, and interpretable methods for critical scientific and engineering problems. He has published papers in top-tier Bioinformatics and AI-related conference proceedings and journals including ICML, NIPS, UbiComp, Neuropsychophamacology (Nature Publishing Group), IEEE Transaction on Big Data, BIBM and System Biology. He has served regularly as a program committee member at numerous international conferences including BIBM, ICML, AAAI, ECAI, IJCAI, and NIPS. He has served as a reviewer for numerous journals, such as Machine Learning Journal, Journal of Machine Learning Research, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, Neurocomputing, Pattern Recognition Letters, and Journal of World Wide Web.
