Right there -- that was the spot that Jim hit to fell this bad boy. Yep, but we had to clear out all that concrete that was hiding it from us throughout the afternoon. Tom suggested rolling it out of the hole we had dug under it so we could have an easier time busting it up. We tried but that there chunk probably weight more than Tom and Jim put together.

So we had to do a bit more busting up, but now without fear of breaking the house. Tom and Jim laid into the task at hand with renewed vigor.

That chunk was not as stable as when it was stuck to the house so the boys took turns bracing it for the other to hit.

"Now when I nod my head you hit it" proved to be a dangerous phase. The big rock soon became a manageable collection of shards.

Chris revisits "The Board Dance" sans board, so Jim called it the "Sand Dance". Remember the board dance? She compressed the dirt as much as she could.

Chris and Jim screened the concrete shards out of the sand, and Tom sat down for awhile since he had done most of the step smashing. "All that time spent in Jackson was worth it", Tom joked. "I learned a trade".

With rake in hand and a level eye, Chris did the detail work.

Job well done!

With the new back steps installed, Tom had to say, "Ain't they purdy". Well, he had to say that because he knew that subs from Sotini's where awaiting him for dinner. Really, they were just a temporary way into the house until the sand arrived so we could build the new steps.
