It was a long and grueling ride on the Amtrak train (we were stalled for an hour and a half near picturesque GAry, Indiana) from Ann Arbor to Union Station. After a quick hike to the Metra station two blocks away, Kathy met us in Crystal Lake. We went back to her place for a wonderful surf 'n' turf cookout.

The next morning we rode the train back into the city. On our way to the art museum, we stopped to enjoy some of the civic art and historic architecture, including the Carson Pirie Scott building at State and Madison (below) and "The Picasso" (right) in front of the Daley Center.

We also got to enjoy some strange performance art (four bald men living in the window of Sears) and a special exhibit of furniture art that was scattered all over the city (bottom left).

We stopped for a quick bagel on the street (below) before going into the Art Institute, which was wonderful but we couldn't take any pictures.

After shuffling through art for a couple of hours, our legs were pretty rubbery, so we took a cab to Navy Pier and had a nice lunch. Revived, we wandered through the shops inside Navy Pier, and the marvelous Stained Glass museum. We encountered more furniture art when we went out on the waterfront.
On to the Ferris Wheel...
