============================== C i t i z e n A b e l 3: T H E C I V I C R E D E M P T I O N ============================== Date : September 2000 Author : Brendon Chung Email Address : blender81@hotmail.com Home Page : http://blended.homepage.com Description : Before he was a Citizen, he was a Private in the UN Corporal Marines. Welcome to Day One of the Stroggos Campaign, Private Abel. Additional Credits to : id software, for sucking up all my time valve, for Worldcraft and Half-Life shiny entertainment, for MDK looking glass studios, for Thief lucasarts, for Jedi Knight the coven, for Deadlode II david hyde & mad dog, for Lazarus chris druckenmiller, for beta-testing my brother, travis t. chung, for punching up the dialogue and special thanks to all the folks who have emailed me feedback ================================================================ * Play Information * Single Player : yes Deathmatch : no Cooperative : unfortunately no. Difficulty Settings : no to run the map, just unzip all the files into your Quake2 directory (make sure to retain subdirectories) and run with command line: quake2 +set game civic +disconnect then at the console, type: map civic1 ================================================================ * Story * WANTED IN FOUR SOLAR SYSTEMS. Held on multiple accounts of Murder. Burglary. Loitering. He is none other than Citizen Abel: the most efficient and economical hit-man in the galaxy. He has grown quite the reputation in the business world through his sordid career. It is a reputation that some would die for; whether they want to or not. But go back eight years. After all, Abel wasn't born a Citizen. * * * A young and inexperienced marine groggily wakes up in his crew bunker aboard the USS Longhorn. His scorched combat armor is still strapped on and his boots are caked with mud from last night's operation. His suit nametag is tattered but readable: ABEL, PRIVATE FIRST CLASS. The melodious voice of the communications lady sings over the bunker intercom: "Rise and shine, recruits, and say hello to another glorious day in the UN Corporal Marines. Dropships are jacked up and good to go. Today is the big day, boys, so go hook 'em horns. Approach with extreme prejudice and earn yourself an honest buck. Welcome to Day One of the Stroggos Campaign." ================================================================ * Gameplay Notes * Do be sure to recognize friend from foe. You are part of the UN Corporal Marines, so don't go around shooting your buddies in the back. I highly recommend you bind a key to the sniper zoom function, compliments of Lazarus. A config file is included. At the console, just type: bind KEY +sniperzoom Whereas KEY is the key you want (i.e. Z) ================================================================ * Construction * Base : none Editor(s) used : WorldCraft 1.6a ArghRad 2.01 NST v0.9b1 QME v0.90 KeyGrip2 2.0.5.5 Known Bugs : brief hall-of-mirrors in CIVIC12.bsp not really a bug, but the Marine Buddy model job is a bit crude; I don't know how to animate/make models too well Build Time : about a year, more or less Compile machine : P3/667, 128Mb ram, Win98 ================================================================ * Other Info * This is my third single-player map. My first map was "Citizen Abel: The Self-Entitled Adventure" and my second was "Bargain-Bin Savior: Citizen Abel 2." This is my first map to have new sound effects and graphics. Some of it was mine, either from scratch, or edited pak0.pak stuff. Many sound effects were taken from the shareware version of StarCraft (great game!), and also much thanks goes to The Coven for open-source releasing their add-on pack Deadlode II. They have some great work, and it was a pleasure to use their goodies. (http://www.thecoven.com) Abel 3 will be my last map for Quake 2. The storyline and locales of these maps are made as a homage to q2. I've tried to make it parallel the single player portion of q2, as a little tribute of sorts. Applause goes to David Hyde and Mad Dog for Lazarus. It adds a ludicrous amount of new mapping features with a very pleasant minimum of fuss. (http://lazarus.gamedesign.net) Early on, my plan was to make all the maps require co-op play. It didn't quite pan out, but I think someone should try doing it someday, perhaps coding in some sort of bot support. Gameplay varies from map to map. Due to the advent of the beginning school quarter, some maps had to be cut shorter than what was planned on paper. Thanks if you downloaded this map.
