Quake 2 High Resolution Texture Packs

Create a clean Installation of Quake2

For easier repeated installation, it's nice to create a clean installation of quake2 that you can just unzip
  1. Install Quake2
    Install Quake II Mission Pack: The Reckoning
    Install Quake II Mission Pack: Ground Zero
    update to version 3.20 q2-3.20-x86-full_3.exe
  2. Copy the \Quake2 directory to a temporay location
  3. Rename \Quake2 to something like \Quake2_Baseline
  4. Copy the \Video directories from the original CD-disks into \baseq2, \xatrix and \rogue
  5. Zip this directory and keep Quake2_Baseline.zip in a safe place
  6. Unistall MP2, MP1 and Quake2
  7. Use Quake2_Baseline.zip to "install" a Full Updated copy of Quake2

AprQ2

  1. About and Install - aprq2_v1.211.txt
  2. Unzip Quake2_Baseline.zip and rename \Quake2_Baseline game directory to \AprQ2
  3. Unzip aprq2_v1.211.zip into \AprQ2
  4. Unzip models.zip into \AprQ2\baseq2
  5. Unzip q2_textures.zip into \AprQ2\baseq2

egl

  1. About http://egl.quakedev.com/
  2. Unzip Quake2_Baseline.zip and rename \Quake2_Baseline game directory to \egl
  3. Run egl-v0.3.1-r1.exe and install into \egl
  4. Copy egl.pkz into \egl\baseq2
  5. Copy egl_blood.pkz into \egl\baseq2
  6. Copy models.pkz into \egl\baseq2
  7. Copy q2_textures.zip into \egl\baseq2 and rename it q2_textures.pkz

KMQuake2

  1. About http://kmq2.quakedev.com/
  2. Unzip Quake2_Baseline.zip and rename \Quake2_Baseline game directory to \KMQuake2
  3. Unzip kmquake2_01-11-10.zip into \KMQuake2
  4. Copy q2_textures.zip into \KMQuake2\baseq2 and rename it q2_textures.pk3
  5. (Optional Alternate Hud) Copy q2e_hud.pk3 into \KMQuake2\baseq2

Quake2xp

  2. Unzip Quake2_Baseline.zip and rename \Quake2_Baseline game directory to \Quake2xp
  3. Run quake2xppr8b1.exe and install into \Quake2xp
  4. Run oalinst.exe
  5. Unzip q2xp_01-20-2010_Update.zip into \Quake2xp

Quake 2 Evolved

Quake 2 High Resolution Texture Packs

I did not produce these texture. I found them on the web either in packs or as single images. They are high resolution images organized into directories and available for download as ZIP files. The directories do not contain shaders or any proprietary file specific to a particular Quake 2 port. The high res textures remain true to the original WAL files from the original game and look great in Action Quake2, Quake 2 Evolved, Quake2Max and EGL which is the port my wife and I use to play Quake 2.

It is my understanding that you may use these textures in Quake 2. You may not use these textures for any other purpose without the permission of the author.
