Currently I am interested in determining the spatial distribution
of stresses related to orogenesis. Paleo-stress orientations and magnitudes
can be calculated from crystallographic c-axis and twin lamellae of calcite
using a petrographic microscope equipped with a universal stage. I am using
this technique on a suite of limestones collected within and at varying
distances from the Appalachian Mountains. This study will help confine
the rheologic behavior of the crust and contribute to modeling of large
scale tectonic deformation.
