The advertising claims of the hunting scent industry are legendary. Some manufacturers advertised that their bottles contained nothing but "pure" deer urine, collected from doe deer when they were in the "hottest 6 hours of their estrus cycle." In the late 1980's, sportsmen bought millions of these bottles of magic potions, based on advertising claims that were blatantly false.
Fred Trost questioned these advertising claims in a series of investigative reports in 1989. He proved deductively that what some scent manufacturers said was is their bottles, couldn't possibly be there. He also proved by scientific evidence that Buck Stop's claims that their products contained "no additives" was blatantly fraudulent. Despite admitting that their claims weren't true, and making an agreement with the Michigan Attorney General's office to cease making these claims, Buck Stop Lure Company filed a defamation lawsuit in 1990 against Fred Trost and his television show.
