The Continuing Adventures of a Home Shop Machinist  
      Chamfer the opening so it clears the fillet on the shoulder, then take a light cut across the face to get it smooth, flat and perpendicular to the bore.


      Finally, cut it off to an overall length of about 1".  You want to get a nice clean face from this, so take it slowly to keep from getting chatter marks.
