The Continuing Adventures of a Home Shop Machinist

The depth of the shoulder isn't critical, I made it about 1/4".  The diameter isn't really all that critical either, since the collar will be adjusted to fit - though for practice I tried to hit 7/8" on the button, and missed it by just a whisker.

Once the shoulder is turned down, it's time to make the collar.  I used another piece from the same 1-1/16" brass hex stock from my scrap box, chucked it up with about 1-1/2" exposed (the overall length of the collar will be about 1") faced it off, center drilled it and then started opening up the clearance hole.  As before, use drills that are properly sharpened for brass!
