The Continuing Adventures of a Home Shop Machinist |
With my tooling I found that I could only take a 0.005" cut before the chatter got loud enough to make me nervous; but there's not that much metal to remove. Once you've got it roughed out to within a few thousandths, set the depth stop to the full 0.800" and make a final light cut to give a nice flat bottom to the hole. This will be the reference surface when re-machining the breech plug, so getting it smooth is more important than hitting the depth exactly. The final diameter should be 0.630" to 0.635". |
