The Continuing Adventures of a Home Shop Machinist

  • Safety first!
  • Parting is such sweet sorrow...
With the threading completed, it's time for some cleanup.  Cut a chamfer on both the inside and outside, then touch up with some 600 emery paper to remove all the sharp edges and burrs.

If you haven't already cut the piece to length, now's the time to do it.  On something this thick I usually start the cut with a parting tool and finish with a hacksaw.  Finally I face off the bottom, center drill it to get rid of the tit (maybe you can get your tools on center every time, but I find this a lot quicker!), and give it a chamfer and quick emery treatment.
