Modeller and Animation Utility Links

SCED object modeller [POV, RIB, Rayshade, Radiance, VRML] {LINUX, SGI}

MedDLe - a wireframe modeller/animator designed specifically for the creation of meshes for game creatures; includes texture-mapped preview (Quake mdl, POV) {Win32}

The Moray Homepage - another great POV modeller [POV] {DOS}

Leo3D Modeller - real-time rendered previews; seems to be oriented around scene construction rather than object construction (POV, RIB, VRML) {Win32, Linux, UNIX}

GL_Space - GL-based modeller; essentially a TrueSpace clone (minus a lot of functionality) {Linux, UNIX}

fracTG - a fractal terrain generator; interactive creation of landscape; kind of non-intuitive - good docs and tutorial would be helpful [RIB, DXF, OBJ] {Win95/NT}

M3D Graphing Software - takes a function f(x,y) for input and outputs the 3-D graph in DXF, RAW, POV, etc format {Win}

sPatch Homepage - a GREAT new spline-based modeller that can export bicubic patch primitives; OpenGL previewing; great interface [POV, DXF, VRML] {Win95/NT}

3Dom Modeller - wireframe modeller with shaded preview; still in early stages of development {Linux, IRIX, HPUX, Solaris}

Mind's Eye Modeler/Renderer - not yet released except for developer's source, but looks to be very promising, sporting animation, OpenGl support, etc {Linux, UNIX}

Renderpark - radiosity-based renderer designed primarily for exploring different types of rendering procedures {source only}

AERO - force/motion based simulation; will generate stills or animation sequences for export to renderer; only supports spheres, boxes, cylinders, and planes right now (no import) (POV) {Linux, UNIX}

Model Scene Editor - A new modeller designed for POV; supports POV primitives [POV, VRML, SMPL] {Win95/NT}

Calimax Modeller Homepage - supports only stardard primitives (sphere, box, cone, torus, etc), but includes texture editor (including halos) and has good scene setup interface; beta versions are free [POV] {Win32/95/NT}

AC3D - A very good polygon modeller, soon to support POV primitives, OpenGL(MESA) previewing [DIVE, Massive, POV, RIB, VRML] {Linux, UNIX}

Pixcon and Anitroll - A very promising duo of free software for modelling, animation, and rendering, no GUI though {Linux, IRIX}

D-Form - a utility to apply deformations to a triangle mesh or bezier patch mesh (RAW, POV) {Mac68k/PPC}

Moon Light Creator - a new modeller/renderer that supports real-time GL previews, radiosity, and atmospheric effects {Win95/NT, Linux}

POVLAB homepage - one of the best and most widely support ed POV modellers [POV, RAW] {DOS}

CannaRay - a modeller/renderer with the same look and feel as GUM, Breeze, etc, but also includes a built-in renderer {Win32}

Terrain Maker - visual terrain editor for POV [DEM, GI F, RGB, POV] {Win}

Genesis Toolkit - a feature-based heightfield color map editor; will identify grassy, rocky, and shore areas; also allows user to define areas to set trees, using a traditional paint program

Povscape heightfield editor with simple trees [POV, BMP] {DOS}

POVSB - interactive scene editor [POV] {Win95/NT}

Midnight Modeller - very good modeller, supports many fea tures unique features (3.0 in alpha stage) [POV] {DOS}
Rhino Modeller - still in beta, but looks to have a LOT of potential ; supports NURBS [DWG, DXF, 3DS, IGES, STL, SLC, VRML, OBJ] {Win95/NT}
Shelly Lib - a utility for creating shells shapes for export to renderers [POVRay, Real3D, Truespace, T3D, SCED, RIB] {Win, UNIX, source included}

Wireware Homepage - anim8 (visual POV animator), skinz (p olygonal skinning over defined cross-sections, povtick (text animation keyframe editor) [POV] {DOS}

Varmint's POV Animator - scriptable POV animations paths [POV] {DOS}

Andreas Hirczy's Particle Fountain - script to generate a particle fountain with motion-tracked blob objects [POV] {source only - UNIX recommended}
