Letter: It's much too early for Christmas decor, tunes

Dear friends who run the Briarwood Mall,

I was just there last night to see a movie and have a Cinnabon. The movie and the
Cinnabon were great but I was appalled to see the mall decked out for Christmas already,
and to hear Christmas music playing over the sound system. I personally love Christmas
music - at Christmastime - but when you start playing it this early everyone is
completely sick of it by the time we're supposed to be of Christmas cheer.

People like you are ruining Christmas. It is not time for poinsettias and red and white
decorations.

Not until at least after Thanksgiving. Where's the anticipation?

Where's the sense of a special season? A season that starts some time in December, if you
please? A quick poll online indicates my friends are driven as nuts by this sort of thing
as I am, and start to avoid stores this time of year because of the stupid, horrible
practice of playing Christmas music, etc., more than a month before Christmas.

Is that what you want? For people to avoid your stores because the whole setup is too
annoying? Because if it is, well, keep it up.

I've nearly finished my Christmas shopping, but I'll likely do the rest of it in stores
that have the decency not to press the season upon me precipitously. I urge you to change
your practices in this regard.
