Marmalade Boy Episode Eight

FRAGRANCE OF AN ADULT
"I'm Not Jealous!"

This episode opens up with Miki remembering the trip to Hokkaido.

Why's he so nice?It is Sunday and the family is having a cookout. Yuu comes to get Miki up and she is concerned about how to face him. At the cookout, Miki gets really comfortable with her family. Once she realizes this, she stops herself and tries to distance herself from them. Jin suggests that they go to a movie and she explodes saying she doesn't want anyone to see them together. Miki runs out the yard.

Miki goes to a store where she sees Arimi trying on perfume. She notices how grown-up Arimi looks and that she still looks like a kid. Arimi sees her and they exchange pleasantries. Arimi then mentions that she has to go meet "Ginta" (saying the first name implies a certain intimacy of a relationship). Miki wonders how far their relationship has gone.

Miki arrives at home to the sound of a vase crashing. She looks in the room and the adults are having an argument. They send Miki and Yuu to their rooms. At school the next day, Miki and Yuu discuss the parents. Miki wonders why they aren't getting along since their relationship has been so good so far.

I'm very sorry.Later that evening, Miki is in her room when they hear the sound of breaking glass again. The kids run downstairs to hear that things are not working out and that they are going to go back the way they were before. Miki is confused. They women get ready to go pack when Miki interrupts. She can't believe that they are giving up so easily. She wants them to rethink their decision. Jin asks her if their lifestyle wouldn't bother her anymore and she says no. The adults celebrate. Looks like it was just a ploy to get her to realize things aren't so bad after all. Miki runs out of the room, crying.

Miki barricades herself in her room and won't come out. Yuu climbs the balcony to calm her down. He wipes away her tears and convinces her to let her family in. They all apologize. At that moment, Miki realizes that she doesn't want to be apart from Yuu.

Later that evening, Chiyako comes in Miki's room and gives her a gift. It is a sample of a new line of makeup for people Miki's age that her company is making. Chiyako and Miki bond over the makeup and Miki admits that when she saw Arimi the day before, she was a bit envious of the way Arimi could wear makeup. Chiyako explains that everyone is different and that Miki will learn her style as she grows up. MIki is happy.
