Return to Subsidy List

A parchment roll of six membranes.  Names of St Saviour parishioners are on membs.1r-2v.  Earlier cataloguers painted over crucial parts of this document with a now-darkened substance, making some details now impossible to recover.  This includes the certificate, which relates this assessment for Southwark to the third of the three subsidies granted to James I in May 1624, and which was payable by 10 May 1625.  The date on which the assessment was drawn up is irrecoverable, but it should have been completed before 30 March 1625.  A faint note on the dorse of memb.6, which is legible under UV light, gives a return date of 13 April 1625.  Further details
