A single parchment sheet, a certificate of non-distraint (inability to seize property for non-payment of taxes).
This certificate, given by the lord mayor and recorder of London, both commissioners for the levy in
the borough of Southwark of the first payment of the subsidy granted in 1571, attests that the petty collectors
of Southwark were unable to collect from or to levy a distraint against the persons named who were assessed
to pay specified amounts towards the payment of the subsidy.
It is dated 18 December, probably 13 Elizabeth I (1571), but the regnal year is now illegible.
