Now
part of the School
of Education,
the building that stands adjoining the former University High
School was a functioning
elementary school to also educate future teachers.[97]
The school housed the basic facilities necessary such as classrooms, a
gymnasium, a small auditorium, and rooms for eating lunch. There was also a small playground located
within a courtyard.[97]
Facilities for the college students included offices, laboratories,
and observation areas. Today, the
building is no longer a functioning school, and houses classrooms and offices
for the School
of Education.[97]
As mentioned previously, the Elementary School is
joined to the High School, although the buildings are slightly different in
style. Overall, it is a two-winged,
brick and stone structure. Designed by
Malcomson and Higginbotham of Detroit, the building
was completed in 1930 at the cost of about $800,000.[97]
