Completed in
1894, Tappan Hall is one of the oldest buildings left standing on the
original forty acres of the U of M campus.[96]
This building is a relatively simple structure, two stories high with
a basement. It is an all red brick
building entered through an archway facing the west. The total cost for its construction was
$49,199.20, and was named in honor of past President Henry Tappan. It was designed by Spiers
and Rohn of Detroit.[96] The building
has served many uses for departments mostly within the Literature, Sciences,
and the Arts. In 1984, an addition was
added to the south end of the building.
Today Tappan Hall is home to the History of Art Department. [2] |
