The library students see today is much different from what it
looked like when it was constructed in 1957 by Albert Kahn & Associates.[107]
Facing the diag, the Shapiro Library also
known as the “UGLI” is located off South University Avenue. It is four floors and provides material for
undergraduate students. Special places
within, include the Wagman browsing center, ITCS
computing sites, the Film and Video Library, and the Science Library.[23] The Shapiro
Library faced a major renovation in 1993 which completely changed the
exterior structure and appearance as well as the interior. The brick and limestone facing are
respectful to the surrounding architecture while the overall form is modern
and innovative, forming a stair-step like shape in plan. |
