Formerly the University Museum, it was later used for the Romance Languages in 1928.  It was located on State Street, just south of Angell Hall.  Designed by William Le Baron Jenney, the four story building was completed in 1881 at the cost of $46,041.[107]  The exterior was entirely of red brick and limestone trim.  The building also had a tower and high peaking roofs.[18]

After it was opened, the building had problems with the floor sinking, a roof that was too heavy and leaked, and inadequate space to display exhibits and store art.  The potential hazard of a fire was too big of a risk for the university to take with its extremely valuable collections.[18]  After the collections were moved to the new museum, the building was converted into classroom space for the Romance Languages.

The Romance Language Building was demolished in 1951 with the new classroom space provided by the new Mason Hall.[18]
