Located on Observatory
Street, the original building is
“U” shaped, three stories, and has a red brick and limestone exterior. Construction was completed on the Lewis Sarvis designed structure in 1943. The cost of the building was $534,000 with
funding provided by W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, and
the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis.[94]
The building contains classrooms, administrative offices, and circular
library and auditorium. Projecting
from the front portion are two wings devoted to research.[94]
Recently, one of the wings was demolished to create a
new addition that will provide additional space and link the seven story
structure to the original building.
The road beneath will be unobstructed to traffic by an open archway.[21]
