Newberry Hall Today

Formerly home to the Students’ Christian Association, Newberry hall was completed in June of 1891 at the cost of $40,000.[77]  Nearly half of this cost was covered by a donation from Mrs. Helen H. Newberry of Detroit.  The building was named in honor of her husband.[77]

Located on State Street, next to the LSA Building, Newberry Hall is a two story building constructed of native field stone.  It was designed by Spier and Rohn Architects of Detroit.[77]

The building was eventually leased to the university as classroom space, and finally became university property in 1937.  Today, the building houses the Francis W. Kelsey Museum of Archeology.[77]
