Located on Observatory
Street, Mosher-Jordan Hall is a
five story brick structure which houses approximately 500 residents. Completed in 1930 at the cost of $797,640,
it features a Collegiate Gothic style.[90]
Plans for the construction of this residence hall (once
exclusively for women) did not come about easily. Many of the landladies across Ann
Arbor feared it would take away
their tenants because the new dormitory was so large. An economic study was later conducted
ensuring that it would not cause negative effects.[90]
The two main entrances to each wing are accessed from Observatory
Street. People actually enter on the second floor
into beautifully oak paneled lobbies.
The north portion of the building was designated as Eliza M. Mosher
Hall, former Dean of Women from 1896 to 1902, and the south portion
designated as Myra B. Jordan Hall, former Dean of Women from 1902 to 1922.[90]
Today, Mosher-Jordan Hall is a coed residence hall.
