With the construction of the Michigan Union for men, the Women’s League sought to construct their own structure for housing activities, gatherings, organizations, and rooming for guests.[73]  Money was raised through a campaign headed by the Alumnae Council along with generous donations Robert Lamont of Chicago in memory of Mrs. Ethel Hussey, and Gordon Mendelssohn of Birmingham in memory of his mother, Lydia Mendelssohn.[73]  In 1921, the site at the corner of North University and Fletcher Streets was chosen; however it wasn’t until May of 1927 that enough money was raised to begin construction.  Architects Pond and Pond, and Martin and Lloyd were chosen to design the building, which was completed in May of 1929.[73]

The Michigan League is a 5 story, red brick structure with masonry trim.  The formal entrance at the base of the tower faces Ingalls Mall, although many people tend to enter the building on the side facing North University which has drive-up access.[73]  This side of the building features a dining room and ballroom.  The center portion of the building contains offices, kitchens, lounges, and bedrooms on the fourth floor.[73]  At north end of the building is the Mendelssohn Theater.  A small courtyard containing a garden is located on the side facing Fletcher Street.

Today, the most popular area to visit in the league for students is the “Underground” located in the basement.  It features two restaurants, a small stage, and a Cyber Center where students can use computers to do homework, or play today’s newest games.
