Named after former President Henry Simmons Frieze, this building was home to the Ann Arbor High School.  It was constructed in 1907, and purchased by U of M in 1956.[107]  It is used as classroom and office space for the Film and Video Department and Asian studies programs.  The building also contains a theater.  The former school, along with the Carnegie Library is located on the block of Washington, State, and Huron Streets.

The building is currently slated for demolition to make room for a new 500 bed residence hall to be named North Quad.[4]  Demolition of the historic structure has been met with little student opposition.  However, the class of 1955, last to graduate from high school there, is pressuring the university to reuse the building.[4]

The Carnegie Library will be spared from the demolition and integrated into the new project.[4]
