The East Medical Building, named the C. C. Little Building today, was
completed in 1925 at the cost of $858,283.32.[47]
Designed by Detroit architect Albert Kahn, this five story brick structure is
located on what was once the corner of East University and Washtenaw Streets (today on North University after Washtenaw was rerouted). The main entrance facing East University Ave (today a pedestrian mall) has four engaged
Corinthian columns. There is white
stone on the frieze and trim on all sides of the original structure.[47]
The
construction of the East Medical Building came out of the need for additional
space. It had housed room for
anatomical research, the Department of Bacteriology, physiology laboratories,
and additional labs for research on animals on the top floor.[47]
In 1960, an
addition was completed to house laboratories for the Pharmacy
department. Since the Medical
Department has long made its move to the Medical Campus near the hospitals,
the adjoining East Medical Building, now C. C. Little,
provides facilities for general sciences.[107]
