Completed in 1889, U of M’s anatomical laboratory was the first constructed in the country.[26]  Professor of Anatomy, Dr. Moses Gunn expressed the need for better facilities.  To that time, dissections were conducted in the medical building which could create insecure sanitary conditions.  This brick and stone building was finally constructed at the cost of $6,535.95.[26]  When West Medical building was completed in 1903, all anatomical work was moved to this location, resulting in the demolition of the Anatomical Laboratory.
