"L'Un Vers L'Autre" by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schoenberg

*Deux anges qui se découvrent*
- Two angels who discover each other -

[Miaka and Tamahome, meeting each other for the first time]

*n'ont rien à expliquer;*
- have nothing to explain; -

[Tamahome's 'oni' character glows as he prepares to defend Miaka]

*deux âmes qui se retrouvent*
- Two souls who encounter (lit. find again) each other -

[Tamahome and Miaka, calling each other's names as they run to each other]

*ont tous dit sans parler*
- have all told without speaking -

[The two of them walk off together. As they do so, the camera pulls back, to reveal Hotohori watching them from his window]

*j'ai souvent rêvé dans les bras de Miaka d'être à sa place...*
- I have often dreamed... to be in Miaka's arms, in his place... -

[Everything within the framework of the window blurs and reforms to show Hotohori kneeling before Miaka (who's in her miko robes). She smiles shyly and then reaches out, drawing him into her embrace, cradling his head on her breast]

*devant ce bonheur d'un autre monde*
- Before this bliss of another world -

[Hotohori smiles at Miaka, embracing her hungrily. The picture suddenly cracks across the middle, then shatters into a thousand pieces to reveal Tamahome embracing Miaka from behind]

*la jalousie s'efface.*
- jealousy is effaced. -

[The real Hotohori glares at the picture, one hand going to rest on his sword; then slumps, no longer angry but merely tired and a little sad]

*Ils marchaient sans savoir, l'un vers l'autre*
- They walk without knowing, one towards the other -

[Miaka and Tamahome blithely traipsing into the palace at Kutou]

*comme la chance quand elle cherche le hasard*
- like Lady Luck when she seeks Chance -

[Yui looks at the two of them, unseen. A flash of anguish passes over her face before it firms, becoming a hard determination]

*deux enfants mis au monde l'un par l'autre*
- two children put in the world, one for the other -

[Quick flashes of both Miaka and Tamahome as little kids before cutting to the Stock Name-Calling Footage]

*pour jouer les héros d'une histoire.*
- to play the heroes of a story. -

[Tamahome and Miaka's spinning-around thing from the TV opening, up to
the part where the other Suzaku Seishi show up]

*Ils descendent des nuages*
- They descend from the clouds -

[Clouds fill the screen, fading to reveal Miaka and Yui examining the Shijintenchi Shou for the first time]

*rayonnants de mystère*
- radiant with mystery -

[Miaka zorfs into the book as a streak of red light]

*pour faire un long voyage*
- to make a long journey -

[Miaka, Tamahome, Hotohori, and Nuriko during the Great Expedition To Taiitsukun]

*d'amour sur cette terre.*
- of love on this earth. -

[Screen narrows to just Miaka and Tamahome. She smiles gaily up at him, and he glances warmly back; really, that's all that needed to be said, despite his nonrecognition of the fact]

*A peine se sont-il vus*
- They have scarcely seen each other -

[Tamahome rescues Miaka (and Yui) from Certain Annoying Lowlifes]

*qu'ils se sont reconnus*
- yet they recognize each other -

[Close-up on Tamahome's "oni" character glowing; dissolve to him comforting Miaka the first morning she awoke in the palace]

*avant de se connaitre.*
- before they know each other. -

[Flashes from one scene of Tamahome and Miaka interacting to another]

*Le bonheur leur va bien l'un à l'autre*
- Their good fortune goes well, one to the other -

[the wish-paper turns into Tamahome, who proceeds to beat the crap out of assorted bandits]

*un aveugle en son coeur pourrait le voir*
- A blind man could see it in his heart -

[Tamahome eating plates while Miaka's gone; dissolve to her return, and his face lighting up like the sun]

*le bonheur ça fait mal chez les autres*
- The good fortune is ill for the others -

[Yui coming on Miaka telling Tamahome that she'd wanted to be with *him*, in the palace of Kutou; her heartbreak is clearly visible on her face]

*quand on n'a pas de rôle dans l'histoire.*
- when one has no role in the story. -

[Towel-clad Yui makes a pass at Tamahome, already under the influence of the paralyzing drug]

*Mais dans une pièce à deux*
- But in a scene for two -

[Hotohori and possessed Tamahome dueling]

*les autres n'ont pas d'réplique*
- others have no reply -

[pull back to reveal everyone else watching]

*ils sont dans le public.*
- they're just part of the audience. -

[Tamahome is gut-stabbed, Miaka runs up, and he overcomes his programming]

[Ye Stock Name-Calling Footage again...]

*Ils marchaient sans savoir l'un vers l'autre*
- They walk without knowing, one towards the other -

[.. dissolving to Tamahome and Miaka walking into each other's arms, blithely oblivious of the other seishi in the background (Nuriko attempts to glomp Hotohori, Tasuki yells at Nuriko, and Mitsukake attempts to keep him from actively flaming the transvestite seishi -- ]

*et la chance a trouvé le hasard;*
- and Lady Luck has found Chance; -

[-- while "Chiriko" and Chichiri are arguing about something on the map), until Our Heroes are attempting to melt into each other as they embrace]

*on n'peut plus les aimer l'un sans l'autre*
- One can no longer love one of them without the other -

[Yui, pensive, on a balcony, gazing up at the stars. Tamahome's image forms in them for a moment -- then pulls back to reveal him withan arm about Miaka. They are replaced by Miaka smiling -- who is then embraced from behind by Tamahome.]

*sans trahir la morale de l'histoire.*
- without betraying the moral of the story. -

[Closeup on Yui's face as her lips form the word 'Kaijin!'; cut to Miaka, screaming the same thing; then to Miaka and Yui in school uniforms (and Keisuke) turning to see Tamahome, who raises a hand to show that he is wearing a gold ring. Miaka runs into his arms, and the camera focuses on Yui, who is watching them, a bittersweet smile on her face.]
