ART, MUSIC, THEATER, and

ENTERTAINMENT GUIDE

Lansing has great art, music, theater, and entertainment, but it took living here awhile before I knew about it. Art promotion here is terrible, so I've decided to promote them myself. If I don't have a link to the organization's web page, I couldn't find their web address or they don't have one. What I provide instead is a typed copy of their brochures. And hey, I make typing errors and schedules change. I do not represent any of these organizations in an official capacity, so you're best to give them a call.

Let's start with the greatest art form known to man: MUSIC!

  • Greater Lansing Symphony Orchestra
  • GLSO Chamber Society
  • GLSO Lecture Series
  • MSU School of Music

  • I just took in a wonderful evening of folk music at the 10 Pound Fiddle Coffeehouse, and it was just an "open mike" session! I had heard of this forum before, but never found my way there until recently. They really don't have a cafe, or a 10 pound fiddle for that matter. Rivals "Wild Hog in the Woods", a coffeehouse I loved in Madison (They didn't have a cafe, a wild hog, or a woods)! 10-Pound does sponsor professional musicians, like Sally Rogers who I once saw perform with Claudia Schmidt--mesmerizing! Their open mike sessions are at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 855 Grove (across from the East Lansing Public Library, just east of Abbott St., south of Saginaw St.
  • The Ten Pound Fiddle Coffeehouse

  • LSO performs at Wharton, which also hosts other concert, art, theater, and dance events; presidential debates; and other travelling shows:
  • The Wharton Center

  • And now the theater:

  • Boarshead Theater Lansing Equity Theater
  • Riverwalk Theater Lansing Community Theater
  • Lansing Civic Players Lansing Community Theater
  • Spotlight Theater Lansing Community Theater (Summer Only)

On those rare weekends without a live performance, try the commercial entertainment guide!
I find this link particularly useful for movies:

  • It's not an oxymoron!
